amend

Terms of Use

Effective 4 November 2026. Applies to the amend app (package app.amend.messenger) and getamend.app.

In short: use amend to talk to people and look after the planet, never to harm anyone. If you use amend for crime or abuse, your account is blocked for everyone on amend and serious cases are reported to the authorities.

Who can use amend

You must be at least 13 years old to use amend. If you are under 18, the stranger shield is switched on for you: only people you accept can message you, and you can’t post in public spaces. If the law where you live requires an older age or a parent’s permission, you must meet that requirement.

What is not allowed

You must not use amend to:

  • sexually abuse or exploit children in any way (see our Child Safety Standards);
  • traffic, exploit or sell people, or arrange sex work with or for others;
  • sell, buy or arrange illegal drugs, weapons, explosives or other illegal goods and services;
  • threaten, stalk, harass, bully or blackmail anyone, or share intimate images of someone without their consent;
  • promote or plan terrorism or violence, or spread hate against people for who they are;
  • scam, phish, spam or spread malware;
  • break any other law that applies to you.

Private and public content

Chats, stories and Instants are end-to-end encrypted: only the people they are shared with can see them. Your profile, your posts in the Grove and your eco map posts are public on Nostr and can be seen by anyone. You are responsible for what you send and post.

Reports and enforcement

Anyone can report a person, a message or a public post from inside the app. When we confirm a serious breach of these terms, we may add the account to amend’s shared blocklist, which blocks it for everyone using amend, and we report crimes such as child exploitation and trafficking to the authorities. Because amend is built on an open network, we cannot delete data stored on independent relays, but we ask their operators to remove illegal content.

Your account and key

Your identity is a key stored on your phone. Keep your backup key private: anyone who has it can act as you. We cannot recover a lost key.

The service

amend is provided free of charge and “as is”. We work hard to keep it reliable and secure, but we can’t promise that it will always be available or free of errors, and messages depend on independent relays we don’t control. amend is not an emergency service: in an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Changes and law

We may update these terms; the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. These terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without limiting any rights you have under the laws of the country you live in.
