Child Safety Standards
Effective 4 November 2026. Applies to the amend app on Google Play (package app.amend.messenger), developed by Ahmed Bhuiyan Faisal.
Zero tolerance. amend does not allow child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind. Accounts that abuse amend to harm children are blocked for everyone on amend, and we report child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the authorities.
What is not allowed
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form: photos, videos, drawings, AI-generated or edited images, or links to them.
- Grooming: contacting a child to build trust for sexual purposes, asking a child for images, or moving a child to a private or secret conversation for that purpose.
- Sexualising children in text, images or voice messages, including role-play.
- Sextortion: threatening a child or anyone to obtain images, money or meetings.
- Child trafficking, or offering, buying or arranging access to a child.
- Sharing, asking for or trading any of the above, or explaining how to find it.
How amend protects young people
- Age question. amend asks every person their age before they start. amend is not for children under 13. The answer stays on the phone.
- Stranger shield for under-18s. For people aged 13 to 17, only people they have accepted, or chats they started themselves, can message them. They cannot post to public spaces (the Grove and the eco map).
- No stranger discovery. There is no public directory, people search, random chat or “people nearby”. To message someone you need their amend ID or QR code.
- Message requests. A first message from someone new arrives as a request. Photos, videos, voice messages, files and locations in a request stay covered until you tap to see them, and links in a request can’t be tapped.
- Stories and Instants only for contacts. Stories and Instants are shared only with people you have accepted, never publicly, and Instants can’t be screenshotted.
- Block and report everywhere. You can block or report a person from the chat menu, from the request banner, from any message they sent, and from any public post.
- Screenshot protection stops chats and profiles from being captured on the phone where it is switched on.
How to report
If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (112 in Europe) first.
In the app, open the chat and tap Report in the menu, on the request banner, or by long-pressing a message. Choose Child sexual abuse or exploitation. Your email app opens with a report to amend’s safety team at lordbfa@getamend.app. You can choose to attach the last 10 messages of the chat as text.
Please never forward or screenshot images of child abuse, not even to us. Sharing them is a crime. Describe them instead.
You can also report directly to a child-abuse hotline in your country through INHOPE, or to the police.
What we do with reports
- We review every report, and child-safety reports come first.
- When we confirm abuse, we add the account to amend’s shared blocklist. Every amend app follows this list: the account can no longer message anyone on amend, its chats disappear, and its public posts are hidden.
- We report CSAM and child exploitation to the relevant authorities, including the police and national hotlines, in line with applicable law, and we preserve the information in the report for them.
- We ask the operators of the relays and file servers that store the content to remove it.
amend messages are end-to-end encrypted and amend has no central server holding them, so we cannot read or scan private chats. Reports from the people who receive the messages are how abuse comes to our attention, which is why reporting is built into every chat.
Compliance with the law
amend complies with child safety laws that apply to it, including the laws of Finland and the European Union, and cooperates with law enforcement on valid legal requests.
